I didnt know where to turn or what to do, alately iv been reading a book on wicca, something to help newcomers like myself get a basic understanding of what wicca is, it has some really usefull practises in it too, for example, the one i now need help with, in it it tells you how to conduct a visualisation to find your patron diety, well, basicly after i followed my path i came to this stone building, as i entered it it was pitch black, i turned around and saw this shadow looking directly at me, i was scared and opened my eyes (yes, shouldent but i did) when i eventually got back the thing had gone and i walked out of the building, there i found a staff, the staff was made of wook and carved to look like basicly twirls, like two snakes entwined but not snakes or any sort of animal etc, thats when i saw what i assumed to be a man with the smae staff, he wore robes and offered to watch me progress and advice me, if anyone, and i mean ANYONE can help me find out who this person is, i would really apreciate it, im just lost and now everytime i try and redo the visualisation, i get nothing, it seemed to be a man in long robes, possibly grey, the sun shone over him so it was difficult to tell many featurs, his voice was rough and he had a large wooden staff like the one i picked up and the staff was polished or vanished, it looked clean put it that way, so please, someone help *begs*

Hey there Nathan, I havent done a whole lot of searching for a patron diety because i mainly focus solely on the Goddess and God, those are my diety's and I just give them features that feel right. Anyways, I apologize for getting off topic. First of all I have to ask the obvious questions: Were you relaxed and calm when you too this journey? Did you have any kind of negative emotions at all? Also, did you cast a protective circle and if so did you take the time to ensure that you had the proper protection when you were taking this astral(or spiritual or dream or whatever you want to call it) journey? That is very important. I know that mostly in Wicca people mainly think of the good things and dont really think about if there are other enitities out there that could harm us. In my opinion, there are plenty of entities out there that would love to latch onto us or harm us or what have you. This is why you have to always make sure you protect yourself. A website that i love to look at is Daven's journal.(http://davensjournal.com/shields-and-wards)- This is a link about Shields and wards, I would suggest that you read this and then use it accordingly. It's very scary to see something like that, It gave me the chills just reading your situation and I am sorry that you had to go through that. Since you are new to Wicca I would suggest reading up and learning all that you can. Go to the local library, internet, bookstore, anywhere you can to find out all you can about Wicca before you continue with trying to find a Patron. It is very serious business dedicating yourself to one god/goddess and not something to be taken lightly, it is also dangerous as you could run into the wrong things on your way. I hope that I was able to help you a little bit and if not I apopgize. If you have any questions, I will do my best to help you out. Safe Journeys Timmy

I seem to understand the shadow part a little more, as i have thought about it there are a few things that may cause the distraction i had, one, it was at half 2 in the morning so i may have felt sleep deprivation however, i have recently had a very upsetting moment in my life about three or four weeks ago when the person i thought i could love forever left me, i feel this may have affected it also, seeing as how much i have been negative since it happened, i have done some research about it and oadin the wanderer (aplologies for spelling) seems to fit quite well with the image i have seen, however it was my first as i say and it was really confusing, one final thing, circles, i dont really get how to work them right, with what iv ehard placing my tarot cards in a circle with four objects representing the earth, fire water and the air and i also place a good luck charm carved from stone in the centre with me, is that right?

Yes that could very well have been it. Any kind of negative feelings, whether you feel they have been repressed or not, could come out during these types of things. Maybe it would be best to do a cleansing circle, however you said that you dont really understand how to do a circle. That is pretty common when first starting out(To be honest I still havent done one yet) Its up to you and what you feel comfortable with but maybe I can give you some pointers. 1st- It might be best to decide what you would like to do in the circle, so maybe write it down(clearly) what you would like to understand or what you are hoping to gain from the experience. For example if I wanted to do a circle to help someone who is having an emotional struggle, I might write down in my ritual notebook(I also have a book of shadows that I write the finished spell in) that I would like to cast a circle to raise healing energy to send to so and so. 2nd- You need to meditate, mentally and emotionally prepare yourself. You'd be suprised at how often we might think ourselves in a good mood, only to meditate and discover later that we in fact had alot weighing us down. 3rd- Now comes the ritual part, you need to make sure to cleanse the space in which you want to cast a circle. I know for myself, I have a sacred space that I dedicated to circle casting a few months back. You can sweep it, purify it with salt, or smudge with incensce or sage. Any of those would work well as long as you have good intentions. When you are cleansing the space you need to make sure that you are thinking about what you want the space to be used for, what kind of energy you want to raise here. 4th- Now is time to cast the circle. You can cast it with salt, water, use your wand, chalk, or just plain visualize the circle of power and protection around you. Try to NEVER break the circle as it could disrupt your magick, If you absolutely must break the circle, cut a doorway into it with your wand, finger, athame, etc. Make sure that you cast the proper elements. Now you said that you like to use Tarot, thats great. You can use your Tarot cards with the representations to signify the elements or you could use small dishes that hold water, dirt, a feather(for air) and some incence, or whatever makes you happy. Now you say that you like to use a good luck charm in the center, you could still do that if you want, your welcome to alter any of this however you wish. In the center of my circles(when I begin to cast them) I will either use a purple candle for spirit or just myself, I mean you are your own high priest right? 5th- Now after placing the elements in the proper places Example= North, south, east, west, ask the god and goddess to be present to witness and bless your circle. Ask that they give you added protection. Imagine! It is important to imagine that they are there, clearly picture them in your mind sitting beside you as you cast your circle, giving you added strength and love. FEEL the depth of their love and the wealth of their power that they are sharing with you. Believe that what they are helping you do will come to be in the time that it is needed. Know that the spell you are casting will indeed come to fruition. Be clear and concise in your spell. In my opinion, wording is very important. If you are doing a spell for more money because the bills are piling up dont just sit in your circle and Imagine stacks of cash around you and say "I want money". The way in which you receive that needed money may prove to be harmful though you might not intend it to be. You might get that money from a deceased relative, or from a terrible car accident you were in. So it is important to THINK through the words. Choose them carefully. Example= "I ask the Goddess and God to provide me with the money I need to pay my bills. I ask that the money I receive come to me through peace and love with harm to none. I ask that the Goddess and God give me enough to satisfy the payments and no more."- Its no fair to ask for more than you know you deserve, after all you never know where its coming from 6th- Thank the elements and send them off in the reverse that you brought them forth. For instance if the last element you cast was air, the first one to be thanked and sent away, should be air. When Your done with that, thank the God and Goddess for lending you their power and witnessing and protecting you during your casting. Close your circle the way you see fit, that doesnt mean you just say thanks and waltz on out of the circle. That is disrespectful. When you close the cirlce maybe say "blessed be, this circle has now served it's purpose and is closed." now, GROUND YOURSELF! You create lots of energy when making magick, its not like you can just walk around and be fine, make sure you press your palms against the ground, returning the energy to the earth. Remember, it was lent to you, you cant expect to keep it. Also make sure that you eat and drink something right away afterwards to help bring you back fully. No need to be throwing up later and turning a beautiful experience into something you'd rather not repeat. Lastly, I would like to say that I am glad you are researching actively and Im glad that I can give you these tips, but I still recommend that you research more before trying a circle. Although magick is a beautiful part of Wicca it is also taxing and could prove to be harmful, if not to you than to someone else(remember the money example). Please be careful and mindful of what you do, the threefold law is not something that you want to be the recepient of the bad end. I hope that this helped! any other questions, please ask and I will do my best to answer. Blessed be! Timmy
