Feel a bit ancient around here, but it is rude to wander around without introducing myself.

I live here on the banks of the Mississippi River.   I have two of my children living here;  Katie who is 20 and Ian who is 14.  My oldest two are in a much better place and smile down at their creaky old papa from time to time.

I have met Wiccans all over the world, although some don't call themselves that (google Shinto,  for example).  I won't pass judgement and give out unwanted parentish advice but do feel free to complain about thick-headed adults.  I listen good for an old guy.

Merry Meet and Welcome to the forum.

Its nice to see some of the "older" generation on here. I'm glad you decided to do some posting.

Blessed Be

I think technically I'm an antique, slightly below ancient.  Anyway, I'll just sit quietly in the corner and drink my coffee.  I will, however, be happy to help anyone with any how-to questions, like where to find sandal wood or how to safely build a good fire or what is a Bouncingbet?  Put some of this antique-ness to good use.

Okay, I have a question for the antique. Why is it that we say Merry Meet, or Blessed Be? I've not been able to figure this out.

Okay, I have a question for the antique. Why is it that we say Merry Meet, or Blessed Be? I've not been able to figure this out.

Feels like an entrance exam question, but anyway...

Here is the Fivefold Kiss:

Blessed be thy feet, that have brought thee in these ways
Blessed be thy knees, that shall kneel at the sacred altar
Blessed be thy [womb/phallus], without which we would not be
Blessed be thy breasts, formed in beauty/ breast formed in strength
Blessed be thy lips, that shall utter the Sacred Names.

It is usually used as a blessing in the rite of initiation.  I think you can find more about the ritual in Gardnerian Book of Shadows.  The term 'Blessed be' is used quite a bit in the King James version of the Catholic Bible but is meant to be more of a discription than a blessing.

Now as for the other, it goes something like this: Merry Meet, Merry Part and Merry Meet again.  May the Lord and Lady Bless.  Pretty much a hello, goodbye and hello again.  If you want to get a little more technical, the Sidhe or the Unseely Court in Celtic Lore would get together from time to time and party all night.  If you were unfortunate enough to come across one of these get-to-gethers, you had better mind your manners and act like you were really glad to see them... "Merry Met".  If you want to get a better feel for this, try Will Shakespear's Midsummer Night's Dream.

Hope this helps..

Thankyou very much! I understand now!

Also, I want to mentuon something. With my family yesterday I cast a circle (my grandmother, and Aunt were both Wiccan a while ago). It was the most amazing thing. Our kitty Yuki came as soon as we started setting things up, and he wanted so much to be with us until the last candle was blow out...then he left....very aruptly to. Anyway, my job was to welcome water into the circle, and when we all said Merry meet I swear....it felt like...like I wasn't on earth anymore. I had travled somewhere I didn't know egsisted. Very, very spiritual experience.

You are very welcome.  I think your experience is how it is supposed to be.  It should be like going home.

I hope I covered Moon's question's as well.

We might like to move these questions to the regular board, like maybe the General section?

Hi Greg-Im new to being Wicca but getting on a bit compared to most on this wonderful site!-I find all this very interesting and really want to learn as much as I can-do you recommend any certain books for me to learn from? You seem very knowledgable too so maybe you wouldn't mind if I put your 'antiqueness' to work too?!! Blessed Be.xx
