Well, there are many ways.
As for construction, You may decide to pick up a notebook, or a nicely bound journal. Many people keep them on the computer or a floppy disk. Alternatively, if you really want to make one from scratch, just pick up a book about book making or book binding and buy supplies.
I personally have several Books of Shadows (called by different titles). One is a proffessional-looking sketchbook, with nice pictures and typed up pages glued in. I also keep a journal in a nice notebook with a butterfly on the front, and many others are in nice looking journals written in my own handwriting.
However, if by 'make a book of shadows' you mean what content to add, it is up to you. Some people use it as a spiritual journal of your path and workings; some may fill it with important spells or rituals; some may put in it The Wiccan Rede and other such ethics; prayers; herbal, crystal, planetary (or such) correspondences... It's essentially up to you and what you will want to reffer to within your book.

Your Book Of Shadows should be completely personal to you. There is really no set pattern to follow, as is pretty much the point that Chi is making. Mine is bound with leather between 2 slate covers. My first page is the complete Wiccan Rede decorated with earthly pictures and as for the rest a record of my thoughts, rituals and outcomes, spells, pathworkings, circle casting... everything basically. I always write it with the same fountain pen! Another nice idea is to buy a real quill (or make your own from a dropped feather) and use that with ink to write in it.
Make it personal and completely "you!"

I agree with the above points and I think that the more you use it then it will take on a greater significance in your working :-)
On a practical note, I know that lots of online sites/shops have really fabulous looking ones and I know that some can be quite expensive. I can tell you that my first Books of Shadows was a Hello Kitty notebook with pink pages - maybe not the most esoteric of books but it was all I had at the time. Plus I felt it a dreadful thing to buy a new book when I had a perfectly good blank one already - thinking of the trees and saving paper.
However, I have since filled this and bought a more "Wicca" looking tome; be it said that the pink Hello Kitty book is so valuable to me as it has my first workings and thoughts.
My point is that it will always be personal to you and in so many things Wicca, there are no hard and fast rules, no right or wrong - it is your path and your book and yours alone.
Do what is right for you in your heart and as Chi and Jet Moonlite say, above all make it personal and completely you.

Just write it as you see it!
It's for you. You can write to The Goddess or The God in it.
'tis up to you! ![]()

Write in it however comfortable. For mine, I write the journal entries like I would a diary, but I write prayer and chants like they are directly for the divine. Spells and rituals I write like basic instructions. I write in this way just because it makes sense to me, so just write however feels most natural - you needn't be consistant if you don't want to.
