From my understanding, black is a colourthat rids negativity. Black is the absence of colour and is protective, like its polar opposite, white.

Black symbolises the night and our connection to the divine energy of the universe.

Because of this I don’t believe that a black candle is ‘bad’ or for ‘black magic’

I hope this helps. ^^

Black candles are often used for banishing spells and can be used for breaking negative spells that break the rede.

Black candles are often stereotyped this way but they are just as good as any other candle for white magic uses.

Black cnadles are often used to absorb and get rid of bad energy. They are also often used for sabbats like Samhain and Yule. And, if you ask me, it doesn't really matter. If you did a spell with good intentions but used a black candle because it was what you had, would that turn it into black magic? Of course not. I don't even think there is a real set of standards defining what black magic is anyway.
