Remedies for Feng Shui

If you would like to imrpove the energy flow of a room, but can;t make too many large changes like buyign new furniture or moving things around, here are some simple things you can add to a room - or your altar!

Yin & Yang: If you have a dominant energy that causes the room to feel too lazzy or too stressed, try adding the Yin or Yang remedies of the opposite energy

YANG

To increase the active, forward YANG energies, that promote happiness, carrier, and wealth, add the following to your room:

-The most prominent Yang colors are Yellow and Red. You would use them to brighten up an overly Yin environment.

-Straight, rigid lines and bear corners. You may want to move some or the furniture so that it is spaced out to make chi move faster.

-Use long vertical lines to make the room seem taller.

-Use shiny and reflective surfaces like glass work, mirrors, or shiny fabrics. Do not over use, or else the room will seem cold.

-Make sire there is a variety of lighting in the room, especially bright lights if you want to increase the Yang energy in a room. Be careful not to make the rooms too bright.

-Plants and flowers with pointed leaves and petals will help speed up the chi in the room and convert energy to be more positive.

-Keep interior doors and outer windows open during the day as long the temperature is not uncomfortable.

-Place paintings and 2-D artwork in rooms instead of 3-D sculptures.

-Keep small keepsakes in decorative boxes so that they do not entangle the flow of chi

YIN

To increase the slow, soothing YIN energies, use the following remedies:

-Add more furniture to slow the flow of chi and give it more places to go so that it doesn’t spiral too quickly. Be sure that you are placing furniture somewhat at an angle and that it is not all up against the wall.

-The most prominent Yin colors are green and blue, purples and grays also works well. -You would use them to calm down an overly Yang environment.

-Use soft, plushy fabrics and less reflective surfaces. Minimize the number of reflective surfaces so that the room doesn’t feel too cold.

-Keep doors closed or half open during the day.

-Be sure that window treatment does not make the room feel too open. Use thicker curtains or blinds to create a sense of privacy.

-Crystals, bowls or salt of metals help to stabilize energies in room, especially rooms that make have a great impact on family and emotional wellness.

-Small ornaments or statues will influence chi and make it slow down as it travels through the room.

-Add curved lines and forms to slow the flow of energy.

Balance: If your room is rather plain and you would like to spruve it up with some simple remedies that are equal in Yin & Yang, so as not to distrub Balance, use some of these...

To achieve balance by keeping the amounts of Yin & Yang equal, try some of the following:

-Place crystals and gem stones such as Smokey Quartz, Jade, and clear quartz, as they work to balance yin and yang energies in small arrangements such as an ornamental dish on a coffee table. Aqua Aura is also commonly used in Feng Shui.

-Keep equal amounts of soft and hard textures. Use reflective and patterned textures.

-Be sure there is a variety of lighting. Use a dimmer switch or use lighting fixtures that limit and enhance the light they can let out.

-Keep the room free of clutter and add small keepsakes and objects on surfaces such as nightstands and tables.

-Use decorative ornaments such as I ching coins woven together with Chinese knot work.

-Keep fans, vases, and other décor that has simple but pleasing shapes, and fine detail.

-Use neutral colors when possible.

Bringing In the Elements: To be sure the elemental Balance is in your favor, use any of these for the element you wish to emphasize. If you want these elements to be represented in teh traditional areas (based on direction North, East, South, West) reffer to the compass on the Basic Feng Shui topic.

If you find that although you know what element your room should reflect, you can’t seem to make it fit in with what you have, there are simple methods for altering your room to fit with the elements of Feng Shui without having to re-do everything you’ve done so far.

FOR FIRE

-Look for décor that has an irregular, but primarily triangular shape.

-Add shades of red, purple, gold and orange when you can. These colors may be used best in accessories.

-Put trophies, certificates, or records of past achievements in the room, as fire represents your fame, carrier, and recognition.

-You may want to keep items in groups of nine, as it is the main number for the south corner.

-Keeping lights bright, and burn candles if desired.

FOR METAL

-Place circular or crescent objects in the room where possible.

-Use colors such as silver, gray, black & white.

-Have a window facing west if possible.

-Place objects in groups of six or seven.

-Place pictures of friends or symbols of your creativity.

-Metal is the direction for the West and Northwest corners. If you have any large pieces of furniture, make them face either way if practical.

-Substitute earth-based items, such as those made of stone or clay with any kind of metal.

FOR EARTH

-Use objects with a square or equally stable shape in the room when possible.

-Plants that are potted in soil, rather than ones planted in water.

-Ceramic and Clay figures.

-Place objects with images or sculptures of a Dragon (The dominant animal of the East) In the room.

-Use colors of Green and brown (For true East) or light blues and greens (for Southeast)

-Place objects in groups of 3s and 4s, or use the ratio 3-4 when possible.

-A living plant or tree. (Dead wood such as hardwood furniture, floors, accessories, ect. cannot be used because the wood is no longer alive).

-Long, rectangular structures or horizontal lines.

-Objects or pictures that have meaning of Health & Family (For East) or Wealth and Prosperity (For Southeast).

FOR WATER

-Use rippling, irregular or slightly curved/circular shapes and lines.

-Use soft furniture instead of all wooden forms.

-Face as much furniture North as practical.

-Use shades of blue, silver, black and turquoise.

-Keep decorative objects solitary.

-Keep records or objects that represent and encourage career and work success.

-Keep artworks representing the Black Tortuous in view.

-Aquariums, table fountains, or objects that supply moving water. If possible, make containers glass or plastic rather than metals of earth based materials.

Engaging The Senses

Having discussed many of the basics of Feng Shui, you will probably notice a positive effect on the changes you make.

However, changes are you have noticed something rather redundant.

Most of these remedies seem to focus only on how the room looks. Now, although most of the remedies states earlier have other elements of the sense with them, you might want to add some of the following:

-Flowers, oils, candles, potpourri, or incense that give off pleasing smells.

-A variety of fabrics, furniture, and even décor that provide a variety of textures.

-Bells and wind chimes that release calming sounds.
