Bedrooms & Restful Spaces For bedrooms it is always good to have a somewhat neutral color scheme. You may have one or even several bright colors in the bedroom; just make sure that the colors aren’t overwhelming. Your bedroom should have a naturally restful feel to it. If you have a TV or stereo in your room, do not put it directly in front of the bed, because it keeps your bed from being the central restful space. At night time, it is good to keep the doors to bedrooms and studies closed so that you do not get too much active energy rushing in to the rooms. Restful spaces are the best for healing and should be regarded as such. If possible, make the room as soundproof from outside as possible, the last thing you need in your quiet space is to hear the freeway in the distance. Try to limit the number of rigid surfaces in the room. It might work well with your original design to have a large mirror or shiny fabrics and hard surfaces, but try to add variety of more ‘yin’ related objects (as these are passive, restful, and peaceful). Miniature statues and figures are good for slowing chi (or Qi) to a peaceful rate and will work nicely placed on a nightstand. Soft and less sleek fabrics also work well. Plants are also a nice addition, but do not try to fit more then one into your bedroom. Because they are always growing and need constant looking after, too many would be overwhelming. They are good for softening areas of rigid lines and corners and absorbing negative energies and releasing positive forces, so they will do their best work by softening the corners of your room that oppose the bed. If you do have a large mirror on your wall, make sure that the space it reflects is visually pleasing and that it doesn’t make the room seem too big or bright. Mirrors work better in small rooms. | |
