Properties: Amethyst is foremost a stone of peace, love and healing. It can transform negativity and relieve stress. It is associated with dreams and restful sleep and is used for relieving nightmares and providing pleasant dreams. Its color associates it with spirituality and psychism, and it is used on the crown (or third eye) chakra to aid in meditation, visualization, spiritual awakening, and strengthening intuition. These properties are what qualifies Amethyst as a power stone.

History & Ancient Uses:The Greeks and Romans believed that amethyst could prevent drunkenness when placed in a wine goblet. Like amber, amethyst has been used extensively as a powerful magickal stone for thousands of years. It is also used for protection and developing courage. It is a variety of quartz, with a translucent, crystalline structure. Ancient Egyptians used the amethyst guard against guilty and fearful feelings. It has been worn as protection from self-deception, as well as a protection against witchcraft (back when teh word had a very different connotation).

The amethyst is known as the Bishop's Stone and is still worn by Catholic Bishops. The amethyst symbolizes piety, humility, sincerity and spiritual wisdom. Amethyst is used for problems in the blood and in breathing problems. Amethyst crystal clusters are used to keep the air and life force in the home clean and positive. Amethyst clusters, points or several tumbled Amethysts placed in a window that receives sun most of the day are very beneficial to use in healing and to heal negativity in the home(but the crystals should be "covered" because they shouldn't get direct sunlight). Place Amethyst clusters, points or several tumbled Amethysts in moonlight and everyone in the home will be feeling calmer. Using an Amethyst as a meditation focus will increase the positive spiritual feelings. Amethyst helps overcome fears and cravings.

It also helps relieve headaches and vibrates to the number 3.

Warning about Amethyst: Although some crystals do well from a bit of sun, the color of Amethyst can fade in sunlight and therefore it's not adviced to be left in direct sun.
