Wicca - A guide for the solitary practitioner : Scott Cunningham. I found this book a really good resourse. Some of the language used is a little confusing in places, for those like me that don't have dictionary quality vocabularies, but apart from that this book is a really good resource. Many sites highly recomended it, and it's one of the most abundant Wicca books. (I even found it at my local library.) Topics range from theory and history to putting theory into practise and even resources for your own book of shadows. I highly recommend it!

personlly i found it to be an attempt to incorparate witchcraft into a more christan like religion. But thats just my opinion, it certainly was helpful in some places

Victoria, I would like to know why you think Cunningham was "christianizing" Wicca - it is an opinion I had never heard before. I found his writings to be very respectful and most people seem to draw a lot from it. I find that, unlike many Pagan writers, he didn't bad mouth Christianity the way so many authors do.

Prehaps i am a little baised. You see i attended a very hardcore catholic school for about 3/4 years, and i find his manner of writing quite similiar to the manner of catholic priests and how they preach. However, i wont deny he has alot of good information and is, as you say, respectful

I myself started with this book, and I still refer to it often, I have many of scotts books, and i've always found him, despite the more advanced vocabulary use, to be a good source of knowledge. I regularly suggest his books, although I do think that sometimes younger teens are better off with something that uses less complex language.

Victoria, I think that was kind of the point. Scott Cunningham was writing such that he felt like a teacher, one that could be trusted and didn't try to confuse readers or put himself on a high horse.
For example there is tons of pagan scripture written so that it uses old english words like "thou" and "Ye", but that doesn't mean it's too Christian because the bible uses those words. It just is what it is, it's what they're telling you that's important, not who they make you think of.
