Over the past few weeks, I've been really interested in the medical uses of herbs. Here are a few beauty care recepies I've picked up along the way.
In order of Cosmetics - Skin Care - Other
..::COSMETICS::.. Lip Balm 2 tsp beeswax 7-8 tsp sweet almond, castor, jojoba, or quality vegetable oil 1 tsp honey 5 drops of any of: lemon, lime, orange, tangerine, peppermint, or apple blossom essential oils Melt together the oil and beeswax, in a small saucepan or over a double boiler just until wax is melted. Use the larger amount of oil if you want a thinner, glossier consistency. Remove from heat. Add honey and blend mixture thoroughly. Stir mixture occasionally as it cools to prevent separation. When mixture is almost cooled, add essential oil of choice and stir thoroughly. Store in a small container. *Synthetic flavoring oils, such as apple, apricot, cherry, peach, raspberry, or vanilla can also be used in place of essential oils.
Chamomile Lip Balm 2 tbsp Chamomile infused oil 2 tbsp grated beeswax 3 drops chamomile essential oil 1 Vitamin E capsule 1 tsp runny honey To make the infused oil, fill a jar to within 1/2 inch from the top with almond, or what ever oil you want. Fill the jar to the top with the crushed flowers. place in a sunny window for a month, turning and stirring everyday. Strain. Measure 2 tbsp infused oil, beeswax and honey and place in a heat-proof bowl over a pan of water. Melt at a medium heat. When melted, remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the contents of one Vitamin E capsule. When it has slightly cooled add the essential oil and keep on stirring until you reach a creamy consistency. Pour into small dark glass jars, leaving to fully solidify. store in a cool dark place. The rest of the infused oil can be used as a bath oil or as a body oil, store in the same way.
Cranberry Lip Gloss Protect sensitive lips from the drying winter elements with this simple yet rich lip balm. Delightful to wear alone or on top of your lipstick for extra shine! 1 Tablespoon sweet almond oil 10 Fresh cranberries 1 Teaspoon honey 1 Drop vitamin E oil Mix all the ingredients together in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for two minutes or until the mixture just begins to boil. (Bowl may also be heated in a pan of water on a stovetop). Stir well and gently crush the berries. Cool mixture for five minutes and then strain through a fine sieve to remove all the fruit pieces. Stir again and set aside to cool completely. When cool, transfer into a small portable plastic container or tin.
Vanilla Lip Gloss 1 1/2 Tablespoon Petroleum Jelly 1 Tablespoon Aloe Vera Gel 1 teaspoons sweet almond oil 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla double boiler or microwave You can double, triple, or quadruple this recipe! Or, even make 10 or 12 recipes all at once. (If you're giving this as gifts it is easier to make a big batch and bottle it all up at once.) Heat this gently over a double boiler for a few minutes, until well combined and warmed through. Or, put in a microwave-safe plastic or glass dish and heat on low heat for a minute, stir, and heat for another 20 seconds and stir again. If you're just doing a single recipe, this is all you'll need to heat the mixture before bottling. If you're making large quantities, microwave for a little longer. Spoon or pour the vanilla lip gloss mixture into tiny glass or plastic containers and store in the fridge to harden slightly.
Chocolate Mint Lip Gloss 1 1/2 t Cocoa Butter,Grated 1/2 t Coconut Oil 1/8 t Vitamin E Oil 1/4 t Milk Chocolate,Grated In a double boiler warm the cocoa butter, coconut oil, chocolate and vitamin E oil until melted. Pour into lip gloss container and allow to cool.

I herd that you can remove make-up with olive oil. You just dabb a little on and the make-up should come off.

Well, maybe, but it probably depends on your skin type. If you have dry skin it might work well, but if you have normal to oily skin the olive oil will just make it greasy.
Perhaps if you diluted the olive oil with another base oil better suited for facial care it would work well. | |
