If you had a rocky coming-out-of-the-broom-closet and need to set a few things straight with your parents, or if they're curious and open minded enough to what to know what your learning, here are some suggestions.
"When Someone You Love Is Wiccan" I haven't read this one, but I hear it is very good. It is aimed at parents with teenagers who are wiccan. It does make a lot of generalizations, but apparently has a very thoughtful Q&A for parents.
"Wicca Demystified" This one I have read, and I believe there is not a better book out there to give family members. It is thoughtful and open minded to other religions (or the lack of), but the author is still passionate about his beliefs. It is informative but not overwhelming. There are general questions, clearing up what wiccan believe, and a Q&A of questions (both common and uncommon). It states that not all Wiccans believe the same thing, and encourages communication and tolerance.
"Confessions of a Teenage Witch" This one is actually meant for teenage pracitioners. I urge you to be careful with this one though, it is a great book, but the title is misleading. You need to read this first, and then hand it off to your parents to read. This book does not answer FAQs. However, it does a beautiful job of helping parents see from a teenagers point of view. For example, it has quotes and thoughts of other teen wiccans, as well as personal experiences from the author as a teen. If your parents read this they won't have the urge to mess around with your altar all the time, or tell you about "real religion", they're more likely to understand your point of view. | |
